Thank you Ms. Levine and AHS drama students for inviting Pine Avenue students to come watch the first performance of The Addams Family this afternoon! We loved it! Bravo!

Mrs Terres taught the rules and expectations of kickball earlier this year in PE. With the nice weather today, several students took the equipment out to the field and played an awesome game! They followed their ROARS and had fun. We are so proud of the students and send a big thank you to Mrs Terres!

Did you know that a male Bald Eagle's wingspan is 7'? Several students researched bald eagles, made a replica of their wings, and compared their individual wingspans to a bald eagles.

Today, in Mr. Taylor's and Mrs. Fornusek's Social Studies Classes, scholars participated in a Mock Congress. Scholars participated as citizens, Senators, or members of the House of Representatives and designed bills that had to pass both houses of Congress before they were sent to President Taylor's desk. If signed, the bill was sent to the Supreme Court where Chief Justice Adams determined if the newly signed law was constitutional. This lesson brought the legislative process to life for scholars and showed the power of checks and balances in our three branches of government as outlined in the US Constitution.

Our 5th grade student council members worked on advertisements for the Pine Avenue food drive during lunch today. They’re PAWSome!

As a part of Bookworms implementation, students participate in a 45 minute instructional block focusing on different English Language Arts skills.

Pine Avenue October Students of the Month! We are excited to share our October students of the month with all of you. We are proud of these students for showing their ROARS in many ways, each and every day! 4th grade: Elizabeth Griffin - Liz is a super student in our classroom! She works hard during all subjects! Thanks for working hard in 4th grade and always following your ROARS. Also, Liz went above & beyond to help clean up after our Pumpkin painting! Isabelle Baker - Izzy is a kind, respectful, and hard worker. She comes to school each day and puts forth her best effort. She keeps a great attitude about any challenge we pass her way, and continues to grow and improve. We are so lucky to have her in our class this year! Ella Earegood - Ella is a conscientious learner, she is respectful, responsible, and empathetic. Ella is kind, compassionate, always gives effort and has a positive attitude! Anthony Hernandez - Anthony is such a patient and kind person. He completes his homework and uses his class time to complete work. Anthony always shows his ROARS! Yaretzi Hernandez - Yaretzi is an amazing student! She is always showing her ROARS and helping others. She excels in all areas of our classroom Riley Snearey - Riley is such an amazing young lady. She is so patient and so kind to all. She gives all her work 100%, and always tries to do better. Riley continuously helps out other students in class. Keep up the great work Ri! Braxton Hubbard - Braxton comes in everyday with a smile on ready to take on new challenges! He does a great job participating in class discussions and puts forth great effort into his work. Braxton continues to show his ROARS inside and outside of the classroom. Keep working hard buddy! Holly Janko - Holly is a student that always works hard and tries her best. She is kind to her peers and helps anyone with anything. Holly is a star student and shows her ROARS. Brantley Woodcock - Brantley always walks in with a smile on his face. He is attentive, kind, and gives his best effort in music. Brantley is always modeling his ROARS and is a great helper to his class! 5th grade: Jessamine Monroe - Jessamine is a wonderful student. She is kind, works hard, listens with attention, and always uses her ROARS! We are so glad she is part of our class! Alonzo Rodriguez - Alonzo is a model 5th grader! He consistently follows his ROARS in all situations. Alonzo is very kind, patient, and thoughtful toward those around him. He stays on task and works hard. Thank you, Alonzo, for being a good friend and setting a good example for your classmates! Rylan Sherlock - Rylan is such a great leader! She shows great effort and focus on all of the activities we do in class. She shows her ROARS daily through her interaction with peers and adults at Pine Avenue. She participates well and always has a positive attitude! Maecyn King - Maecyn demonstrates excellence in all she does. She shows kindness to all of her fellow scholars and works hard to not just understand a subject or topic, but master it. She demonstrates what it means to be a leader and scholar through both her actions and her words. Adyson Gulick - Adyson is kind, caring, a thoughtful worker and friend. She can always be counted on to be a leader by following her ROARS with a positive attitude. Way to go, Adyson! Keep up the great work! Nadia Higbie - Nadia is a kind and caring student. She always has a positive attitude and comes to school ready to learn. Nadia always shows respect to others and is willing to help at all times. She represents the best character traits that we would like to see in all students. Lauren Prieto - Lauren comes to PE with a positive attitude and is always willing to help others in class. She shows great sportsmanship and is a leader among her peers. I appreciate her help in PE and her willingness to do whatever I ask of her.

Ms. Wilson's class has been fortunate to have a student teacher from Alma College this fall. Mr. Smith has balanced the demands of collegiate athletics and student teaching well. Mrs. Engel and Mrs. Oswald’s classes have been working on an adventure story as part of the new Bookworms program. Today they celebrated their final pieces by sharing them with students from the opposite class.

Fifth graders are revising adventure narrative stories using a narrative checklist from our new reading curriculum Bookworms to ensure all elements of a narrative story are included in their work. Students have been silently working for over 30 minutes. Final drafts of these stories are going to be so much fun to read!

Paraprofessional staff is also receiving CHAMPS training today, under the leadership of Mrs. Hahn. APS is committed to providing professional development surrounding the district goals to all staff.

November is Homeless Awareness Month and we’re excited to be partnering with United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties to raise money for Gratiot County Hope House through a coin war challenge called “Coins for a Cause”! Start saving and collecting your coins to send with your student! The classroom that raises the most amount of money will win a PIZZA PARTY! 🍕

Mr. Huff is leading members of the APS Custodial, Maintenance, Food Service Teams, along with Administrative Secretaries, Central Office staff, Paraprofessionals, Transportation Department, and other non-certified teaching staff member in ALICE training and reviewing safety protocols this morning.

APS teachers are diving into a day of professional learning, focused on the CHAMPS framework and continued work on building a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Support.
