At APS, we believe that every student matters and every day matters!
Our School Board Policy 5301 requires us to notify families if a student is absent more than 10% of school days. Attendance is first checked after the first 20 days of school, and then again at the end of each trimester.
This year, after the first 20 days, we saw a small increase in the percentage of students who have missed more than 10% of days (22.9% in 2024 compared to 23.5% this year).
We are committed to working alongside families to support positive daily attendance, because being at school every day helps students learn, grow, and succeed!

Tomorrow kicks off Homecoming Spirit Week with PAJAMA DAY!!

In Mr. Steffes' class, they've been doing an escape room, with the hidden location to make it back to safety being Hawaii. When they went to the desk with a map of Hawaii on it, most students kept looking at the map confused, missing the paper that said safety pointing to their desk, which lead to lots of laughs.

At DLPMS, we're using the Zones of Regulation to help students better understand and manage their emotions. 💬💡
The Zones are four easy-to-understand colors that represent different emotional states:
🔵 Blue Zone – Sad, tired, sick, or bored
🟢 Green Zone – Calm, focused, ready to learn
🟡 Yellow Zone – Frustrated, nervous, silly, excited
🔴 Red Zone – Angry, out of control, extremely upset
Students learn that all emotions are okay – the goal is to recognize how they're feeling and use tools to help them get back to the zone that’s best for learning. It's all about emotional awareness, self-regulation, and building lifelong coping skills! 💪🧠
Let’s work together to support our students as they grow emotionally and socially!
Today was the first day that students were able to check in on our Zones of Regulation wall!

ALMA 2 DC students spent the day at the Museum of the United States Army, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Smithsonian Museums of American History and Natural History. The students had the opportunity to hear the story from a Holocaust survivor. The evening will be spent touring some of the famous memorials in the city.
We want to also send a huge thank you to Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center for sponsoring the orange T-shirts for all of our travelers! We really appreciate it!

HoCo Week '25:

Hello from Washington, D.C.! 🇺🇸 Our 8th graders are off to an unforgettable start at the Jefferson Memorial.🐾

🎶 One minute it was a normal Wednesday... then Cotton-Eyed Joe hit the speakers and the 8th grade dance party was ON! 💃🕺
Even better? Their former principal made a surprise visit and jumped right in! 👏

Seventh graders in Mrs. Kane's class became scientists and engineers last week-- with LEGOS! 🧱
Students worked together to build creative Lego structures, then had to write out the procedure for how they built it. The twist? They swapped instructions with another group and tried to rebuild the same design.
The challenge showed just how tricky it can be to write clear, detailed procedures—and why they matter so much in science experiments. 👩🔬👨🔬
Collaboration, problem-solving, and a whole lot of laughter made this lab a success!

The 6th graders had a special opportunity to hear from a Michigan State Trooper who visited our school to share an important message about the power of making good decisions. The presentation focused on what can happen when people try to complete tasks while impaired—whether by alcohol, drugs, or even distractions—and how those choices can impact not only themselves, but others around them.
The Trooper gave real-world examples that helped students understand how one poor decision can lead to serious consequences. Students were able to experience how impairment affects reaction times and judgment, making it clear why safety and responsibility matter.
After the presentation, students participated in a Q&A session, asking thoughtful questions about what it’s like to work in law enforcement. They learned about the challenges and rewards of serving the community as a Michigan State Trooper, as well as the importance of trust, safety, and responsibility in the role.
We are grateful to Trooper Travis Rogers for taking the time to meet with our students and help them see how good decision-making today builds a safer future tomorrow.🐾🚨🚔
