Missed school days add up. Don't let your student fall behind. Every day matters!

Alma Public Schools knows helping students develop empathy and learn how to process their emotions in positive, healthy ways is crucial. That’s why APS has Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) classes for K-5th grade students.
Led by Kristie Hancock, students learn how to manage big feelings and tackle challenges with confidence through engaging games and activities. Younger students’ lessons center around identifying feelings and developing coping skills, while older students learn about conflict resolution and self-reflection.
“SEL gives students the tools to handle emotions, build strong friendships and grow confidence—skills that support success both inside and outside the classroom,” said Hancock. “Students put SEL skills into practice all day long – in the classroom, at recess, at home and with friends – to solve problems, build relationships and make positive choices.”

As we welcome everyone back in 2026, we want to ensure our school community stays safe and healthy. This is a helpful reminder about when a student is too sick to attend school.

Tonight we are in "The Spirit of Giving" for the Alma Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball games.
The Alma Varsity Boys Basketball team and the AHS Student Council collected over 130 food and hygiene items, along with $70, to help restock the AHS Panther Den. A huge thank you to 104.9 WQBX for five years of donating student section t-shirts. This year's "Shake Down the Thunder" shirt helped encourage and kick off the donations. A portion of the shirts were also donated by Mid-State Screen Printing and Embroidery.
The Alma Varsity Girls Basketball team will also be collecting items at the game to donate to the Community Cabinet, sponsored by State Farm - Katie Tobias.
Items for the Panther Den will also continue to be collected at the concessions stand this evening, as Sports Boosters will exchange a free popcorn for full sized hygiene items or non perishable food items.
Thank you for giving back to our community!
Pictured with donation items are Gavin Sexton (Panther Den), Ethan Helinski and Jackson Hemker (Varsity Boys Basketball Captains), Sevarah Markham and Grace Hancoack (Student Council).
